Extreme sports in Portugal 2023 : In Montes Laboreiro, Viana do Castelo district and Penede-Gerês National Park, there are sports activities and accommodation for holidays or stays where adrenaline invites you to sensations and adventures in permanent contact with nature.

Extreme sports in Portugal 2023: The purpose of this project is the combination of several factors such as: nature, adventure, culture but especially the safety and professionalism of the guides. The main goal is to satisfy all clients with unique and memorable experiences in Gerês Park.

Canoeing

The region offers excellent conditions for canoeing in a magnificent scenery that the Peneda Gerês park has to offer to its visitors
Enjoy all the unforgettable moments In the waters of the rivers and dams there are marvels of art to be found along the way.
Dive into the lagoons with cristal waters and try a picnic in the countryside.

These activities are only possible with groups of at least 6 participants. Come to discover the Peneda Gerês Park, accompanied by professional monitors

Star Canoying

In the Varziela river, customers can experience canyoning even if it is the first time. A fun course with activities such as: toboggans (natural slides), rappelling, water jumps, also recommended for families with children from 4 years old. For children or adults who do not know how to swim the equipment that is provided contemplates this situation in addition the participants can trust the monitor.

Peneda Trail
This route allows you to visit villages and towns of Peneda Park and Branda da Bouça, then up to Penameda and the swamp of Chã do Monte. The itinerary then goes to Fraga da Meadinha, well known for climbing. The route is done in the middle of the mountain, starting with on a track used by oxen of the Barrosã breed.
After 3 km the descent begins, seeing Branda da Bouça in the distance. Then the participants follow an old pilgrim's path, called foot put since there is no other way to walk it. Then there is a new ascent to Penameda with 1200 meters of altitude and then descending again to the artificial lake, known as Pântano located in Chã do Monte.
As you cross the lake, you walk along a stream and the descent is a real adventure due to the steep slopes. As you descend you can see the church and the village of Peneda on the background.

Crossing Castro-Peneda
The Serra da Peneda has a great landscape contrast, between the irregular granite peaks and the soft green ones, filled with meadows. On this 13 Km crossing the mountain, starting at Lugar da Portelinha and ending at the sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Peneda, passing through forests and pine trees, here we walk in the area of the Iberian wolf where traces of this animal can be seen.
The most interesting point of this trail are the Sanctuary and church of Peneda, the evangelists yard and the 300 meter staircase as well as 20 chapels, which tell the life of Christ

Mountain BTT tours

In the park there is a great choice of mountain bike rides, to get to know the Laboreiro mountain and the Peneda mountain ranges. There are routes for all tastes from 18 to 50 km.

Deep Canyoning

Deep Canyoning in lagoons and waterfalls is an unforgettable adventure not to be missed. For those who like strong emotions and testing their physical resistance almost to the limit, this race is ideal. It lasts 6 hours and will undoubtedly be a memorable experience. The locks on the Laboreiro River are waterfalls that can only be seen close by. This race requires a minimum of 4 participants who will discover this beautiful place always in safety with the appropriate equipment and monitors support

Walk along a river overcoming obstacles. Swim in natural pools and jump into lagoons surrounded by huge cliffs where participants use ropes and other means of security, to make rappels.

Water canoying

This race takes place in Rio Laboreiro with some difficulty, the race has moments of pure adrenaline, adventure and challenges. Think of a waterfall inside a cave with 7 meters high, this is one of the most sensational obstacles in this part of the river, there are other challenges in this course as there are still 2 more descents in rappel and jumps to lagoons

It's important to confirm that the participants will always be safe with the monitors who prepare all the necessary material for this purpose

Mega Canyoning

This is an event where participants will have a clear idea of what the Peneda-Gerês National Park has to offer with its paradisiacal environment. It is a course for the most daring with 2 hard rappels on the Varziela River, with paradisiacal lagoons and waterfalls with pure water. This event lasts approximately 4 and a half hours. All the necessary material and safety equipment is provided by professionals.

Walk with Shepherds

The work of shepherds has been and always will be a traditional task especially for the men who live in the mountains. They walk every day through valleys and hills guiding their herds and flocks searching for food. This activity allows participants to be in contact with the local people. The participants can be shepherds here for one day and share unique experiences

Multi Activities

Canopy - It helps overcoming the acrophobia: fear of heights

The slide - Flying between the trees.

Abseiling - Standing with your back to the abyss.

Climbing - Climbing on 9 meter walls

It is a combination of activities with unique experiences and at the same time appreciate what nature has to offer us, all these races will be accompanied by experienced monitors who will help if necessary to overcome the difficulties. It is an afternoon of adrenaline and adventure full of action with rappelling, tree climbing and slide all this to remember later as photographs and videos are made

What is Arvorism?

The essence of canopy is to walk paths at the top of the forest with a platform suspended above the trees.

What's Rappel?

Rappel in French means: recover or call

What's Climbing?

Climbing consists of a quadruped advance over a vertical surface, where the physical action is characterized by a difficulty connected to the randomness of prey placement and the wall quality

What's Slide?

The slide consists of the action of going down with a steel cable from one high place to another lower, using some material

In the Footprint of the Iberian Wolf (By Jeep)

This excursion aims to observe the fauna and flora of the region and also to visit some cultural heritage as well as the fojo do lobo which used to be a trap to capture the Iberian wolf being later forbidden by law
A walk that takes the participants through Soajo, a village known for its granaries, then onto the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Peneda
Castro Laboreiro (By jeep)
This village is as one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal on the second place, it is one of the main tourist attractions of the Park Gerês for its landscapes. It is also the origin of a canine breed with the same name
The village of Castro Laboreiro owns an ancient and very rich historical, archaeological and architectural gift which are the megalithic monuments: Castro Laboreiro Castle and the Roman bridges.
Discovering the Mountain Goat
Certainly a majestic tour to observe the famous mountain goats in their wild environment, a very interesting and instructive excursion about the life of these animals
This course is 12 km long crossing through the wonderful wetland of the Ameijoeira, built by the human being to store the water and use it later for irrigation, cattle and wildlife
After the swamp the excursion goes to the mountain goats refuge, located between steep cliffs where these animals feel safe because it is extremely difficult for the wolves to reach these places

Castrejo Bread Workshop

In Castro Laboreiro you will find many ovens and mills where the nice Castrejo bread is kneaded and produced. Here participants can learn to knead and grind the flour and bake the bread in the oven. In the end you will have the opportunity to taste it with good wine

Serra da Peneda (By jeep)

Participants in this excursion will pass through mountains and villages at the same time as they can observe wonderful and breathtaking landscapes of rare beauty passing through Gerês Park, one of the most spectacular moments is the passage through the mountains of Peneda, Soajo and Castro Laboreiro, then entering Spanish territory through the hot springs to Castro Laboreiro.
